AGGRIEVED APC MEMBERS DEMAND SUSPENSION OF SEN UDOEDEHE, ITA UDOSEN, ORS
…APPOINT NEW STATE CARETAKER COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN
Aggrieved members of the Akwa Ibom State executive committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded the immediate suspension of the National Secretary of the Caretaker Committee of the Party, Senator James Akpanudoedehe, the State Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr. Ita Udosen, the State Secretary of the Caretaker Committee, Mr. Austin Ekanem and the State Working Committee of the Party.
They have appointed Pastor Edidiong Idio, former Chapter Caretaker Committee Chairman of Etim Ekpo as the new State Caretaker Committee Chairman of APC.
This was contained in a press release signed by 19 Chapter Chairmen of the Caretaker Committee of the Party in Akwa Ibom State during a press brief at the heels of the disrupted Ward Congress of APC, Saturday.
Presiding over the press session, the Ikot Abasi Chapter Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Hon. Ubong Friday Ekpo, said the decision was taken after the State Executive Committee rose from its emergency meeting. He added that a letter stating their stand has been sent to the National Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the Party, Mai Mala Buni.
The forum of the Caretaker Committee Chairmen of APC also passed a vote of no confidence on the state Caretaker Committee Chairman of the party, Dr. Ita Udosen and his led State Working Committee.
The vote of no confidence according to the group is on the allegation of mistrust and misused of the position entrusted on them by jettisoning it for a state coordinator role of ‘Udoedehe Support Group’. They said the double standard display of the position entrusted on them has made the party faithful to lose confidence in their leadership.
Other sins counted against them include; hijacking of nomination forms and Ward registers which hampered a successful Ward Congress; publication of unapproved names of returning officers for the Ward Congress; selection of Ward Congress Committee from Udoedehe Support Group; Hijacking of the 7-man Abuja delegation led by Mallam Banky Sheriff to supervise the Ward Congress exercise; Forming factions in the Party; Refusal to publish names of aspirants who bought nomination forms; and conclusion to announced result of purported Ward Congress which did not take place.
However, the new Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Party as elected by the group in the person of Pastor Edidiong Idio has been mandated to convene emergency stakeholders meeting of the Party.
He has also been tasked to reach out to stakeholders of the party widely including the Minister of Niger Delta, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, Sen. Ita Enang, Obong Umana Okon Umana, Otuekong Don Etiebiet, H.E Sam Enwang, H.E Obong Nsima Ekere, Hon. Eseme Eyibio and others.
Also, he is to reach out to the Party at the national level to intimate them of the situation in the state and urged the national leadership to suspend forthwith all processes of Congresses in the state due to the intra party crisis pending when issues may have been resolved for a peaceful congress.
The group’s agitation is also for Sen. Akpanudoedehe to be suspended as National Party Secretary. They said it is necessary as he is already parading himself as a Governor aspirant making him bias in the conduct of party affairs in the state.
According to the group, the decision is to “pave way for a smooth conduct and rancour free congresses in Akwa Ibom State and national convention of the Party.”
Meanwhile in the other news, as reported by the Ink Newspaper, Retired Deputy Inspector General of Police and Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, DIG Udom Udo Ekpoudom (Rtd) has hailed members of his party for a rancour free Ward Congress of the party held across the state Saturday, 31st July, 2021.
According to the former Police Chief; “The election was free and fair because registered members of the party were able to exercise their franchise without undue interference from any quarters.
This is what the APC stands for at all levels and we are happy to witness this free, fair and credible process”.
He further thanked the leader of the party, President Muhammadu Buhari for ensuring that all members of the party have a say in who becomes their leader at the ward and other levels.
“What you have seen across the nation, today would not have been possible if not for the incorruptible nature of our President Muhammadu Burhari. The APC has again proved to Nigerians that it is the best political party to lead Nigerians to the promised land.
DIG Ekpoudom, also applauded other party faithful across the state for turning in their numbers to cast their votes at the congress.
“I must also commend the undisputed leader of the party in Akwa Ibom State, Senator John James Akpan Udoedehe and other leaders of the party for ensuring a free and fair process.
“This is an indication that the party and her leaders are better placed for the next general elections”.
In Akwa Ibom State, we witnessed the freest, fairest and most credible elections that have ever been and this is because the leader of the Party in the State, Senator John James Akpan Udoedehe, had made this possible.
I congratulate those that emerged victorious and urge those who couldn’t make it to join hands with those that emerged to ensure that the party is placed in a better position to win the forthcoming 2023 general elections”, DIG Ekpoudom concluded.
