YOUTH EMPOWERMENT: A’IBOM GOVERNMENT ENDORSES RHAB-YESS
… As 25 Trainees Get Inducted Into Skill Programmes

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Barrister Ukpong Akpabio, has endorsed the Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey Youth Entrepreneurship Support Scheme (RHAB-YESS) to foster human capital development in the State.

The endorsement was made on Wednesday at the Conference Room of the State House of Assembly during the 9th Edition of RHAB-YESS Meet and Greet event.

Addressing beneficiaries of the scheme, the Commissioner, who was the Special Guest of Honour at the event, said “I want to commend the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey for putting up this apolitical programme. It is a veritable platform that encourages young entrepreneurs in the State.”


Barrister Akpabio added that RHAB-YESS is in complete synch with the Ibom-3000 Project, a training programme of the Ministry of Trade and Investment, aimed at equipping the youth with necessary skills “so they can be relevant especially as the state gains license for Oil and Gas Free Trade Zone.”

While narrating his personal experience and zeal for business, he charged beneficiaries of the Scheme to take advantage of the great opportunity before them and make good use of it with all amount of discipline.

He thereafter inducted 15 youths into the Second Phase (Batch-Two) of the Skill Empowerment Programme of RHAB-YESS, where beneficiaries will be trained to acquire modern trade knowledge in automobile repairs and oven bake spraying.

The Commissioner further promised to support the automobile trainees with transport allowance throughout their training period and also boost the cash tokens for the entrepreneurs.

In his remarks, the initiator and Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, who was represented by Elder Mark Esset (Nsit Atai), has charged youths of the state to make good use of the unique and invaluable opportunities before them for personal development and progress.


He explained that the Scheme “is designed to help young Akwa Ibom sons and daughters attain financial greatness and also upscale their skills in readiness for employment in various sectors.

The Speaker said the entrepreneurship support scheme and all the phases of RHAB-YESS are geared toward complementing the enterprise development drive and the Completion Agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration.

Highpoint of the event was the donation Photo studio equipments including brand new laptop, camera printer and generator to Hybrid Media Studio (own by Iniobong Effiong and Godsway Edem) and also the presentation of seed money to Blessing Jerome Mbat (N250,000), Joyce Edwin Abel (N150,000), and Bright Malachy Michael (N100,000), all of them winners of the 9th Edition of RHAB-YESS.

Meanwhile, in an earlier development, 10 youths were inducted into the Second Phase (Batch-One) to acquire skills in the oil and gas sector.


The Speaker, who was represented by his Director of Protocol, Hon. Desond Etim, advised beneficiaries of the Second Phase (Batch-One) to exhibit the virtues of hard work, determination, commitment and dedication; cooperate with their trainers, and be good ambassadors of Akwa Ibom during their stay in Rivers State.

In his remarks, the Special Assistant to the Speaker on Media and Communications, who also doubles as the Manager of RHAB-YESS, Mr. Darlington Udobong, said “beneficiaries of Batch-One will undergo three months intensive training in the oil and gas sector. We are very optimistic that these youths, at the end of this programme, will bridge the manpower gap in the oil and gas industry and also enhance local capacity.”

He further informed that the beneficiaries will be trained in Rivers State by two reputable oil servicing companies, AB-Fairland Pinnacle Engineering and Prime Offshore Services Limited.

Mr. Udobong also said all the batches in the Second Phase of RHAB-YESS are aimed at supporting talented Akwa Ibom youths through exposure to rich technical on-the-job work experience.

“We believe that exposure to rich technical on-the-job work experience will equip these talented youths with practical industry experience, which will in turn position them favorably for employment opportunities within and outside Akwa Ibom after the programme,” he added.


Speaking further, Mr. Udobong said “It is also our belief that this scheme, and many other to come, will help develop a sound human resource base for Akwa Ibom’s development.”

The event was witnessed by representatives of AB-Fairland Pinnacle Engineering and Prime Offshore Services Limited including Engr Akan Nyekop Edet and Mrs. Sarah Nnsewo.

The beneficiaries included Spencer Bassey Umo, Aniedi Thomas Okon, Celestine Ini Etim, Moses Okon Umoh, Jersey Edem Bassey, Koko Brandan Asuquo, Ntiene Edet Akpan, Asuquo Edet Okokon, Godwin Effiong Okon and Patrick Nicholas Edet
