NIGERIANS EXPRESS MIXED FEELINGS OVER DEMISE OF COMBAT PILOT

Tributes and concerns continue to trail the demise of the first female combat helicopter pilot in Nigeria, Tolulope Arotile, 23.

According to Shehu Sani, the ex-Kaduna Lawmaker who took to his tweeter handle, said “Tolulope Arotile was a shining star who broke barriers & defied conventions. She raced through an uncharted & dreaded part & braced the tape in victory. She refused to be hindered by neither the ceiling nor the sky. She was a woman who conquered the impossible & the unimaginable.”

In its tweeter update, Nigerian Air Force announced, “It is with great sorrow that the @ NigAirForce regretfully announces the unfortunate demise of Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile, who died on 14 July 2020.”

Many have been skeptical about the death as a Nigerian with a social media identity, Slap44, said “If I say this accident should be properly investigated, you will see people who will get mad and cry. I cannot imagine how the pretty girl will sustain deadly head injuries for a car accident inside a naval base in the North?”

Osato Corleone’s reply to Senator Shehu Sani’s tribute, “It’s a known fact that Islamic state (IS) terrorists’ worst nightmare is to be killed by a woman – they believe that they won’t be admitted into heaven if killed by a woman. I’m not saying Arotile’s death wasn’t an ‘accident’, but all possibilities must be considered.”

Arinola Ifeoma I. Awokoya in her tweeter handle lamented, “This world! A young girl who has done huge things-taking to the skies flying as helicopter combatant pilot, fighting to secure her country dies in a motor vehicle accident on the NAF base. Father. This one I just so not understand. I am devastated. Her parents! Haaaa! Father!”

Many also pushed for an investigation to be carried out to ascertain the course as it does not sound convincing that the Tolulope Arotile died in a traffic crash within the NAF base, kaduna.

“Road traffic accident at NAF Base? That raises so many question. Also, information reaching us that she was hit by a car on reverse – at what speed? While she’s gone, I strongly suggest her death be investigated,” @Samuel Orjingene.
