“MY ASPIRATION NOT INFLUENCED BY SEN. EYAKENYI” – ISANGEDIGHI

A CHAIRMANSHIP ASPIRANT FROM ONE OF THE SMALLEST LGA IN AKWA IBOM STATE, URUE OFFONG/ORUKO, JOHN ISANGEDIGHI SAID HIS ASPIRATION NOT INFLUENCED BY SEN. EYAKENYI.

John Isangedighi, Chairmanship aspirant of PDP for Urue Offong/Oruko LGA said his aspiration is not influenced by Sen. Akon Eyakenyi who is claimed to be related to him.

He said this during the inaugural session of ‘Grassroot Leadership Chat Series’ by the Conference of Online Publishers Akwa Ibom State, COOPA, Thursday.

“Senator Akon Eyakenyi does not play any role towards my Chairmanship ambition. My people are accessible to me and they know that I am very capable of serving them.”

Favoured by zoning, the Chairmanship hopeful also said it is his plan to improve the economic base of the LGA through ‘Strategic Human Capital Development.”

“I have an agenda that will cut across the youths, men, women and the aged. I intend to introduce a programme called ‘Strategic Human Capital Development,’ if elected as Chairman of Urue Offong Oruko LGA.

The aspirant also promised to improve upon the infrastructure and social amenities by providing motorable roads and portable water.

“Part of my programmes will be to provide basic infrastructure and amenities. We will partner with the State Government in grading of roads and creation of other network of roads, to enhance movement of vehicles across the LGA.”

Running a human-face administration has been disclosed as the goal of the Chairmanship hopeful.

“I will be a team leader. We will bring in people that have competitive advantage, to join us in moving Urue Offong Oruko LGA.

Health care improvement and care for the aged, women and children is a task to be fulfilled for the people of Urue Offong/Oruko LGA.

The welfare of students in the higher institutions is part of the plan of the aspirant to improve by timely payment of bursaries. He also said equipping the youth with various skills is his plan if given the privilege to serve at that tier of government.

He said before his emergence, he has been privately contributing to the growth of the LGA.

“I’ve had the privilege of providing scholarships to Urue Offong Oruko people. I’ve assisted people in skill acquisition and other training. In my own private capacity, I have touched the lives of people. If I become the Council Chairman, I’ll do more.”

He said his leadership will help curb some challenges faced by the oil producing communities.

“One of the challenges confronting oil producing areas is that we’ve not benefited from the resources emanating from our areas. What we must do is to engage relevant stakeholders in dialogues, so as to find lasting solutions to these pressing issues.”

The aspirant added that he is accessible to his people as he has been interfacing with his people regularly before the ambition.

He said Oro people though aggrieved that they have been marginalized from taking the Governorship seat in the State, is hopeful that posterity will remember them by stakeholders seeing the need for the area to be considered in 2023.
