UDUNG UKO EXPRESS FRANCHISE IN FAVOUR OF PDP
The people of Udung Uko LGA expressed their franchise in favour of the PDP flagbearer, Prince Atanang Asuquo Osung and his Vice, Mrs. Mfonobong Etim Umoh in the just concluded LG elections.
The visiting team of Journalists met voters casting their votes in Udung Uko, Eyotai, Ward 5, Unit 5 with PDP leading with the sole candidate in the area as there was no other party in the contest.
Also, in Ward 10 with six polling units had PDP leading in all as the people were seen casting their votes.
The total vote cast in the LGA was 9856 for PDP with no opposition in the area.
The details of the votes from Ward 1 – 10 in Udung Uko LGA has; Ward 1 – 1057; Ward 2 – 1245; Ward 3 – 710; Ward 4 – 755; Ward 5 – 1466; Ward 6 – 739; Ward 7 – 726; Ward 8 – 799; Ward 9 – 1191; Ward 10 – 1168.
Reacting to questions from Journalists, the Chairmanship candidate, Prince Atanang Asuquo Osung said the process is free and fair and the environment very peaceful.
He commended the state Government for ensuring a new exco is instituted in the LG levels without transition. Prince Osung also commended AKISIEC for the modalities in place for the smooth electioneering activities.
He promised to run a people-centric leadership as he will come up with programmes to better the lots of the people and bring about infrastructural renaissance in the area.
A stakeholder and indigene of the area, Mr. Christopher Esin alias ‘Xto’ from Wars 5, Unit 4 said he was impressed by the conduct of the elections and that the large turnout was due to the PDP candidates being the popular choose of the people.
He prayed for the success of the Chairman as one of the members of his election steering committee.
The Vice Chairmanship candidate, Mrs Mfonobong Etim Umoh was seen with the husband, Elder Etim Umoh casting their votes in Ward 10.
While speaking with electorates at the voting centre, there was clear indication that the area was peaceful as the people braced the rain to exercise their franchise.
In Ekim Village, Ward 10, Unit 1 voters queued behind the Vice Chairmanship candidate, Mrs Mfonobong Etim Umoh to cast her vote.
When interacting with the Vice Chairmanship candidate, she made known that her interest is to birth good visions and programmes for the women in the area.
She however appreciated the Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel and the wife, the first lady, Dr. Martha Udom Emmanuel for ensuring women are given a place in governance to add their quota to development. Mrs Umoh promised it will be a new era for impactful leadership in the area.
Also, the indigene of the area, Elder Etim Umoh said he was delighted to witness a peaceful conduct of the LG elections in the area which as a civil servant and an electoral officer, he is mostly away during elections in the state to witness its conduct.
He commend the State Government for ensuring that the elections took place to bring in effective hands to change the narrative at the LG tier.
