LG POLL: EYOTAI STAKEHOLDERS HAIL MR. ATANANG OSUNG OVER VICTORY
For emerging the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer for the forth coming Local Government Council election in Udunguko LGA of Akwa Ibom State, Stakeholders From Eyotai Village has congratulated Mr. Atanang Asuquo Osung on his emergence.
The Stakeholders gave their felicitations Wednesday, at Eyotai village Council hall, during a reception to mark the victory of Mr. Osung, which according to them is victory for Eyotai.
In his remarks, President General of Eyotai Consultative forum, Dr. Effiong Onuntuei, congratulating Mr. Osung, described his emergence as well deserved following the free and fair primary and expressed gratitude to the political leader of Udunguko LGA, HON. Kenim Onofiok for being one of the vessels God used to answer the prayer of Eyotai.
He called on the Chairmanship hopeful to remain focus in office and pledged the resolve of Eyotai village to support him to actualize his campaign promises for Udunguko people.
Also speaking, a renown Eyotai daughter, Mrs. Mfonobong Umoh thanked Elders, Men, Women and youths who stood by and champion the course of Eyotai to a glorious end and prayed God’s blessings upon them.
Congratulating Mr. Osung, one of the contenders during the primary, Mr. Ernest Iyanam, appealed to him to be magnanimous in victory and prepare to mend fences for an all-inclusive governance, noting that “in every contest there must be a contender”.
He promised to support the government of Mr. Osung in any way possible in order for the area to leave a positive mark on the Sands of time.
In his response, the jinx breaker, Mr. Osung popularly known as “System”, who could not hide his joy, appreciated God for seeing him through despite all the hurdles at the local Government Council primary.
The Chairmanship hopeful who was full of praises also thanked everyone for supporting his ambition and called on all sons and daughters of Udunguko irrespective of political interests to place premium on the overall interest of the growth and development of the area.
He promised purposeful leadership and readiness to embark on programmes, initiatives and policies that will project the LGA in limelight.
Others who spoke at the epoch event are;Village Head of Eyotai, Chief Edet Effiong, Mrs. Nkoyo Effiong and Leader, Udunguko Legislative Council, Hon. Duncan Solomon.
A breakdown of the result that gave Mr. Osung the resounding victory during the primary shows that Mr. Osung scored a total of 223 votes out of a total of 249 delegates who voted. While his contenders scored 4 and 5 votes respectively. A total of 12 void votes were recorded.
A cursory look at the political history of Eyotai, shows that the Area has not produced an Executive Chairman of Council since the creation of Udunguko LGA in October 1996.
