LG Chairmanship: John Isangedighi consults Urue Offong/Oruko PDP, stakeholders

John Uwe Isangedighi, the Urue Offong/Oruko PDP chairmanship aspirant, on Friday, consulted party leaders and stakeholders in Urue Offong/Oruko local government area on his ambition to run for the chairmanship position in the upcoming local government election.
Those he consulted were; the PDP executive council in Urue Offong Oruko, led by the chapter chairman, Hon Okpo Ekeke, ward chairmen and their executives, as well as women and youth groups.
Traditional dancers, drummers and members of the Isangedighi campaign organization were in high spirits as they danced together with the aspirant into the PDP secretariat in Eyubia, Urue Offiong/Oruko, for the occasion.
Isangedighi, during the visit, said his aspiration came as a result of his zeal to serve his people at the council level, having observed the worrisome underdevelopment of the area for more than twenty years.
He said he was at the PDP secretariat to appeal to the leaders, party chieftains, women and youths of the party to give him a chance to serve, promising that he would not disappoint them if given the opportunity to serve them as the Urue Offong/Oruko local government council chairman.
While appealing to the party chieftains to support his ambition, Isangedighi said his major interest as council chairman wound be centered in the area of human capital development/education, strategic economic plan, quality healthcare, and provision of infrastructural and social amenities.
According to Isangedighi, his administration would consciously put in place lofty programmes that would enable the young people acquire both formal and informal education with ease.
He said those with interests in vocational skills would be properly sponsored for training and they would be further equipped with relevant work tools and assessories to help them succeed in their endeavours.
Isangedighi said: “I have sufficient exposure, capacity and wherewithal to take up the responsibilities of Urue/Offong Oruko local government area to any level.
“I intend to bring my wealth of experience to bear in the activities of the council, and by so doing, we will change the living conditions of the people for good.
“We will set up programmes of action to train our people in different skills. We will pay busary regularly in order to strengthen the faith of our students to enhance learning
“We will also set up a structure for science oriented students, where they can learn skills in soft ware engineering, bio technology, as well as ICTs, and we will encourage young people to take up academic courses that are in high demand, while setting up programmes to guide and encourage them through their learning period”.
In the area of strategic economic plan, Isangedighi said he would invest in agro based activities where the people would engage in large scale commercial farming.
Isangedighi said since people of the area depend majorly on agriculture and fishing, he would introduce a back-to-farm project, using modern farming methods in order to guarantee food security so as to make the people economically self-reliant.
He said he would restructure and redevelop the popular Oruko market, alongside other community markets, to serve as a subregional market so that it would boost the volume of economic activities in the area and beyond.
He said his administration would encourage the use of cooperative societies so that Urue Offong/Oruko people would have access to funding and working capital.
On healthcare, Isangedighi said his administration would improve on existing primary healthcare facilities in the local government area and restructure it for the benefit of people
On infrastructure and social amenities, the PDP chairmanship hopeful said his administration would, among other things, provide access roads, portable water and electricity supply, sanitary facilities and ensue that they are adequate maintained.
Isangedighi said he would operate an open door policy, carry everyone along and build bridges of relationship across all wards of the local government if he is considered to go for the position to serve as the next council chairman with his vision to develop and bring smiles to the faces of his people.
Speaker after speaker at the occasion poured accolades on Isangedighi, saying that he would make them proud when he becomes council chairman.
Responding, the Urue Offong/Oruko PDP Chapter Chairman, Hon Okpo Ekeke, thanked Isangedighi for his boldness and courage to contest for the chairmanship election.
He assured Isangedighi of their supports and prayed God to guide and see him throughout the political journey, saying God only would decide who goes and that it is their prayer that God grants him his heart’s desire.
Hon Ekeke advised the aspirant to carry out his campaign peacefully, adding that, the primary election would be conducted on a level play ground, adding that they would all rally round the winner and ensure he emerges as the next council chairman of the local government.
Isangedighi is a renowned estate surveyor and valuer in Akwa Ibom State. He hails from Mbopu Eyokan community in Urue Offong/Oruko local government area.
