Still on her commitment to share love with Akwa Ibom people during this Valentine season, Legislators Wives Association, LEWA, disembarked today at Goodnews Humanitarian Foundation – Gospel Home Village, Midim Water Side, Abak LGA with various food items, toiletries, stationeries to over 100 children in the home.

The wife of the Speaker, Mrs Itohowo Aniekan Bassey who led the entourage said the gesture is to play a complementary role to the effort of the Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel and wife, Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel in elevating human capacity in the State.

She added that LEWA’s step is to also support their husbands’ representation in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

LEWA admonished the children to be law abiding, obedient and Godfearing for a guaranteed future.

The 84 years old Visioner, Bishop Elijah Mboho was represented by the Secretary, Her Lordship, Mrs Sophia Inyang.

The Secretary was elated by the visit and said the visit is an answered prayers from the Tarry prayers they observed last night in the home. She added that the land which the home situate is called ‘City of Refuge.’ Formerly an evil forest, God decided to hand it over for the sake of the children. The Secretary prayed for the visiting team and asked God to bless them.

The Director and daughter of the Chairman of the Foundation, Mrs Promise Essien Mboho in her speech appreciated the women group for deeming it fit to visit the children. She judged the visit as a big one for the children and the Foundation.

The Daughter of Bishop Elijah Mboho continued to explain that some situations which the children found themselves are due to societal norms. Some were tagged with names due to circumstances like maternal orphans, paternal orphans, doubles orphans, witches etc.

“When mother delivers and dies, they are tagged evil children and accused of being the cause of parents death and mostly abandoned.

“We come in contact with most of these children through youth corpers who pick them from streets or found them roaming in markets; through direct parents handover and from vulnerable homes. Some societal norms make these children easily accused as causes of the circumstantial deaths of their mothers after birth hence tagged witches and thrown out from homes.”

She added that the vision has been running since 1975 and still, with interest of vulnerable children at heart.

Running a full fledge Primary and Secondary Schools to carter for the educational needs of the children, the Director, Mrs Essien Mboho said the Primary School is called ‘Goodnews Blue School,’ while the Secondary is known as ‘Goodnews Community Secondary School’.

It was made known that close to 200 children, 11 in higher institutions while 22 in secondary schools are under the care of Goodnews Humanitarian Foundation.

The Foundation has produced graduates, married couples and grandchildren which one of them is to be dedicated in two-weeks time.

Amongst the challenges of the Foundation is to equip the skill acquisition centre so children too can be trained on skills.

Meanwhile, later today, LEWA paid condolence visit to the wife of the Governor, Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel over the demise of her father-in-law, Late Elder Gabriel Emmanuel Nkanang whose burial comes up on February 15, 2020.
