AKHA RECEIVES NAMES OF NOMINEES FOR BOARDS, COMMISSIONS
Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has sent names of nominees for Boards and Commissions to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for confirmation.
The Letter from the Governor referenced GHU/AKS/S/104/Vol9/602 was received by the House during its plenary, Tuesday.
The letter has Mrs Ekereobong Samuel Umoh as nominee for Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Civil Service Commission from Eket LGA.
Nominees into Assembly Service Commission include; Barr. Goddy Umoh, Chairman, from Ikono LGA; Rt. Hon. Friday Iwok, member, from Abak LGA; Dr. Mrs. Roberta Edem, member, from Uyo LGA; Etiene Bob, member from ONNA; and Barr. Godwin Awa, member, from Itu LGA.
Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA) has Hon. Enobong Uwah as Chairman from Uyo LGA.
The Akwa Ibom State Secondary Education Board has Rt. Hon. Ekaette Ebong Okon as Chairman from Itu LGA; Pst Markfre Ekefre as member from Eket LGA; Hon. Ofonmbuk Ukim, member from Ibesikpo Asutan LGA; Barr. Victor Okon, member from Oron LGA and Mr Martins Umana, member from Essien Udim LGA.
Nominee for State Technical Schools Board has Hon. Godwin Udom as Chairman from Oruk Anam LGA; Hon. Akaninyene Eyo, member – Etim Ekpo LGA; Ekanem Willie, member from Eket LGA; Henry Nko, member from Ibeno LGA; and Hon. Inemesit Ubokudom, member from Nsit Ibom LGA.
The plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey committed the names to the Committee on Judiciary, Justice, Human Rights and Public Petition for further legislative action and report to the house within two days.
Meanwhile, the House also considered the motion for an urgent need to look into street hawking by underaged children. The motion was brought in by the Chief Whip, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekpenyong representing Ini State constituency.
Contributions by members on the motion had dividing views as some spoke in favour and some against.
Speaking in favour, the lawmaker representing Etinan State Constituency and the Deputy Leader of the House, Rt. Hon Aniefiok Dennis strengthened the motion by citing Sec 31 of the Child’s Rights Act and called on the relevant agencies to wake up to their responsibilities.
On the other hand, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Uko opposed the motion on the grounds of children still on holidays and need to assist their families due to the hard times posed by Covid 19 pandemic.
After due consideration, the house resolved that His Excellency, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel should direct the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare and relevant agencies to evacuate these vulnerable children from the street.
Also, relevant Government agencies, religious leaders, traditional rulers, Civil Society Organizations, Women group, Security agencies, Media, Elites and other Stakeholders were urged to intensify sensitization programs on the ills of child hawking, poor parenting and other forms of child abuse.
