AKHA MOVES AGAINST ILLEGAL TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS, MOTOR PARKS
The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has frowned at the increase in the number of illegal tertiary Institutions and motor parks in the State.
This came as separate motions raised on the floor of the House during plenary as led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey to mark the first anniversary of the 7th Assembly, yesterday.
The motion titled, “Proliferation of Illegal Tertiary Institutions in Akwa Ibom State; A call for immediate action to save innocent youth and parents from self-centered and unconscionable proprietors,” was raised by Rt. Hon. Mark Esset.
According to his motion, the member expressed worry over the situation where unsuspecting parents patronize illegal institutions and end up jeopardizing the future of their wards with the ripple effect on the society.
“I am compelled to bring this motion to save the career and future of the youth of Akwa Ibom State and parents from spending their hard earned resources on training wards who end up acquiring fake and unrecognised certificates from illegally operating tertiary institutions in our dear state.”
The prayers of the motion have that the list of tertiary Institutions operating within the State as approved by NUC, NBTE or NCCE regulatory bodies be published by Ministry of Education within 30 days.
Also, a facility tour be conducted by the AKHA Committee on Education and Ministry of Education to ascertain the status of these institutions within the State.
A comprehensive report is to be presented before the House after the tour detailing the Status of these institutions in the state.
Meanwhile, the House referred the matter to the Committee on Education for indepth studies and report back to the House within one month.
On the other hand, the member representing Oron/Udunguko State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Effiong Bassey moved a motion on “Proliferation of illegal Motor Parks in Uyo metropolis, the capital of Akwa Ibom State; calling for urgent action.
The matter was referred to the House Committee on Works and Transport to report to the House within one month.
Meanwhile, the House has adjourned its plenary to Thursday, June 18, 2020 at 10am.
