AK – NAWOJ TAKES COVID-19, RAPE SENSITIZATION TO INI LGA

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Akwa Ibom Chapter has taken Covid-19 and Rape sensitization to Ini LGA, charging the rural masses to observe basic hygiene tips and expose any rapist amongst them.

The sensitization took place earlier today at Ananamong foodstuff market in the hinterland of Ini LGA, Akwa Ibom State.

Leading the team, the Chairperson of the female Journalists in Akwa Ibom State, Cmd Uduak Ekong charged the villagers and market women to observe basic hygiene tips by washing their hands frequently using soap with running; use of nose/mouth mask and hand sanitizer.

She also educated the market women on the ills of rape in families and the society. Mrs Ekong urged the indigenes to expose rapists and not cover rape incidences.

Indigenes were encouraged to come forth and report rape cases to relevant authorities without fear or favour.

NAWOJ Chairperson however appreciated Akwa Ibom First Lady, Dr. Martha Udom Emmanuel for making the outreach possible by donating the outreach items.

She promised that the Women group will always partner with FEYReP and other life touching programs of the State Government.

Also addressing the people, the wife of the Executive Chairman of Ini LGA, Mrs Edith Israel Idiasin appreciated the Wife of the Governor, Dr. Martha Udom Emmanuel for the delegation.

She charged the indigenes to imbibe basic hygiene routine to prevent the spread of the pandemic in the State.

Representing the wife of the Chairman, the SA to the Chairman on Welfare and Women Affairs, Obongawan Iniobong Eseme called on the women to be more attentive to the well-being of their children and should not allow rapists to walk freely in the society under the guise of husbands, uncles, brothers or family acquaintances.

She said rape cases should be directed to the LG Council which is the seat of Government closer to the people.

The high point of the outreach was the distribution of facemasks donated by the first lady of the State, Dr. Martha Udom Emmanuel via AK-NAWOJ to the Market Management Committee and the indigenes of the area.

Responding, the Chairman, Market Management Committee, Mr. Favour Thompson thanked the wife of the Governor and women Journalists in Akwa Ibom State for deeming it fit to visit the area to enlightened the people on the ravaging pandemic and rape. He also appreciated the first lady for donating facemasks to ruralites in the area to further combat the deadly disease.

He promised to further take the message to their respective homes and also amplified the message on other social platforms in the area.
