A’IBOM SWAN DEMANDS SPEEDY COMPLETION OF UYO TOWNSHIP STADIUM FOR SPORTS ACTIVITIES

The Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN has appealed to Akwa Ibom State Government to expedite the construction of Uyo Township Stadium to further encourage Sports Activities in the State.
The Chairman of the Association, Comrade Emmanuel Akpan tendered the request amongst other needs of the Association to the Commissioner of Youth and Sports, Sir Monday Uko when he visited the Association during her August Congress.
Comrade Akpan had it that, Uyo Township Stadium when completed and put to use will give sports in the State a boost as Sports activities would be splits to both Nest of Champions and Uyo Township Stadium especially when the 2020/2021 league season commences.
Speaking further, the Chairman lauded the Commissioner for being the first Sports Commissioner to visit SWAN in event as such as Congress, noting that the Association has long enjoyed his two terms in office as the Commissioner of Youth and Sports.
Akpan while thanking governor Emmanuel for his numerous support to the growth of SWAN in Akwa Ibom State declared the Association’s partnership in the Completion Agenda of Deacon Udom Emmanuel especially in the area of Sports.
He however solicited for a courtesy visit to be arranged via the office of the Commissioner to specially thank the governor for his support for the growth of the Union and his developmental strides in the Sports sector.
Responding, the Commissioner said he was impressed at the peaceful coordination of the leadership and members of the Association , charged that the Unionism spirit should be maintained for a greater achievements.
Giving his words, the Commissioner assured that 65% of the Association’s request tendered at the Congress shall be granted.
Hon. Uko used the occasion to debunk the alleged disbursement of fund for the construction of Oron Sports Centre as speculated by unreliable media agents .
” Please Oron has never been given money for the development of Sports Centre yet but it has been in the budget of the State Government, may be some people may not know the difference between budget and the actual expenditure”. The Commissioner stated.
The Sports Boss while clearing the air, has it that the only Sports Centres under construction were that of Onna and Uyo Township Stadium which according to him are on top gear towards completion
Mr. Uko advised SWAN members to distant themselves from being use as instrument of division to any football team in the State.

Monday Ebong Uko, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Sports who doubles as the Chairman of Akwa United Football Club, Elder Paul Bassey, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Amos Etuk, Vice President of South-South, Otuekong Bonny Nyong and members of the Association.
