The Secretary to Akwa Ibom State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem on Saturday, commended the peaceful conduct of the Local Government poll in the state, describing the exercise as a huge success.
Dr. Ekuwem, who voted in his Udung Inyang Unit, Afi-Uda, Uda Ward 1, Mbo Local Government Area, said the large turnout and enthusiasm expressed by voters during the exercise was impressive.
The SSG who spoke with newsmen shortly after exercising his franchise, attributed the peaceful and orderly conduct of the elections by the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) to the peaceful nature of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
“The peaceful nature of this exercise depict, manifest and show vividly who the Governor is.Since the State Chief Executive is peaceful, everybody is peaceful.
“My father used to say that no household, family, village, town, local government, state and country can be greater than whoever is at the top. So,since the governor is a man of peace, you can see peace radiating in the entire exercise. So, the people should continue to be law abiding, peaceful, orderly and be harmony-centric and continue to support His Excellency, the Governor in his Completion Agenda,” Ekuwem stated.
He, however, used the opportunity to call on Mbo people to continue to support Udom Emmanuel-led administration in view of many developmental projects in the area.
The state chief scribe listed the projects to include Ibom Deep Seaport, Ibom Industrial city, Etebi-Enwang road, the NNPC oil and gas logistics centre and tank farms.
Also speaking with newsmen after casting his vote in his Uko Akpan Unit, Enwang Ward 1, Mbo Local Government Area, the re-elected Chairman of Mbo, Hon Asukwo Eyo thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for making sure that the local government election is conducted and not the usual practice where elected officials used to handover to a transition administration before another election is conducted.
Eyo assured that the prevailing peace and security in Mbo would be sustained to ensure the completion of all the developmental projects in the area as no development thrives in an atmosphere of rancour.
