The Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey has charged the winners of the fifth round of Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey Youth Entrepreneurship Support Scheme (RHAB-YESS) competition to be more industrious by making judicious use of the cash-prizes to improve their respective businesses.

He said this during the event of cash presentation to winners of the fifth (5th) edition of RHAP-YESS, Thursday.

“I want you to invest the money into your various businesses for expansion to add value to yourselves, others and the society.”

The Speaker who was represented by Hon. Effiong Johnson of Mbo State Constituency said as an efficient benefactor, he will be embarking on unscheduled routine visits to the beneficiaries to see how they are fairing in their respective businesses.

The Chairman on the occasion who is also the Director of Account, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Sir Jeremiah Efe appreciated the Speaker for offering seed money to young entrepreneurs across the 31 LGAs of the State to develop their businesses. He said the gesture is in line with the industrialization policy of the State Government.

The Director of Account, AKHA charged the winners to be resourceful by making good use of the seed fund.

In her remark, the Special Guest of Honour, Chief (Mrs) Janet Amba, SSA to the Governor on Small and Medium Scale Enterprise (SME) encouraged the winners to persevere, focus and be passionate about their trades with the fear of God as their opium in business.

She made known that 31 SMEs desks have been set up in the 31 LGAs of the State to serve as platforms to organize entrepreneurs in the State. The immediate past President, Oro Development Union added that if this is given much attention, Akwa Ibom State will be compared to China or Singapore in no time.

The star prize of N250,000 went to Moses Daniel Udofia from Nsit Ubium LGA. He is into fashion designing and a graduate of Civil Engineering, University of Uyo.

The second prize of N150,000 was won by Mr. Idongesit Samuel Okon from Abak LGA and he is into Photography. He studied accounting.

Third prize of N100,000 went to Akpan Blessing who is into interior decoration and from Ibiono Ibom LGA. She is a graduate of Animal and Environmental Science, University of Uyo.

The Special Guest of Honour, Mrs Amba augmented the prizes with the sum of N20,000; N15,000 and N10,000 respectively.

The SA on Communication to the Speaker, Mr. Darlington Udobong said the mode of selection is very fair and open to everyone from the 31 LGAs of the State.

Also as one of the managers of the program, Mr. Udobong said the process has entrepreneurs chosen from a weekly competition where their short videos are uploaded on social media for public reaction. The Entrepreneurs with highest comments wins for each week which continues for three weeks. Winners of each week are put on a final competition. The entrepreneur with the highest comments takes the star-prize.

He however hoped for more entrepreneurs to participate in the program in the future for more businesses to be transformed as the process is very democratic.

Also gracing the occasion was Ms Aniebiet Francis, a movie artist and Ms Aniebiet Ekpo, SA to the Commissioner on Trade and Investment.
